This is a simple yet fun look that was inspired by an Instagram friend @trencitajohnson. It’s simply two French braids in the center and crossed over a high ponytail, falling into two regular three-strand braids. The weight of the braids holds them in place. I think it has a fresh, edgy look that looks great on all ages. This can be used for sports, school, or even a concert!

Any advice for someone considering it?

This style works best on hair that is past your shoulder blades so that the braids have some length and hang well. If there is any wave in the hair, it may be easier to style if you straighten it first. As always, I recommend the Herbal Essences Set Me Up Gel Spray to tame the creeps. How would you describe this look?

My favorite thing about this style is how beautiful yet simple it is! This style can be easily achieved for medium to long length hair. The longer your hair is, the more dramatic the rope twists will look.

This braided rope braided style can best be achieved on damp hair by using a cream/mousse/gel to help hold flyaways while you style. Part your hair down the middle starting at the top of your head to the nape of your neck and secure with your favorite elastics/ties into two ponytails. Divide a single ponytail into two sections, then twist both sections (separately) to the right. If desired, you can add a workable wax/pomade to each twisted section for extra hold. As you start to see the twisted sections take shape, you will wrap the right over the left and continue to twist and repeat until you reach the end. Once again, secure the ends with your favorite elastics/ties. Move on to the other ponytail and repeat! Finish with your favorite hairspray if you must!

Any advice for someone considering it?

I would recommend this style for all ages! It’s a great style if you want to keep your hair out of your face and neck on hot days.

It is perfect for a casual everyday look where you could loosen up the twists to give it more texture for a bohemian style or keep it tight for those outdoor sports activities like soccer, hiking, golf, horse riding, etc. It would even be a great style to wear under a hat during the winter for activities like skiing/snowboarding, ice skating, sledding, or even ice hockey!
